3Prong Power's plug-in hybrid upgrade includes twenty PbA20-12 lead-acid batteries plus all high voltage components and control electronics in a secure welded steel enclosure. The enclosure fits beneath the trunk deck and above the spare tire so no trunk space is lost. Additionally, hydraulic shocks allow the enclosure to pivot out of the way for easy spare tire access. This battery pack gives you about 10 miles of all electric driving.
The PHEV conversion allows for three modes of operation:
1. Electric Vehicle Mode: the car uses 100% battery power.
2. Enhanced Prius Mode: the car uses a mixture of battery pack power and the Prius engine depending on driving conditions for enhanced mileage
3. Normal Prius Mode: the extra battery pack is not used and the car operates exactly like any normal Prius.
